FAMILY ORDER OF ST. PETER
Cross of the Order, GOLD, 68,0 x 39,0 mm., with ball-finials, the arms with red enamel, bordered in white and blue, flanked by golden lions passant, red enameled obverse centre medallion, bearing the golden, standing image of St. Peter of Cetinje (the Saint Patron of the Orthodox church of Montenegro), within blue enameled outer circlet with the cyrillic inscription, meaning "DANIL I OF MONTENEGRO", red enameled reverse centre medallion, bearing the golden date "1852-3", blue enameled centre medallion with the golden, cyrillic inscription meaning "FOR THE INDEPENDENCE OF MONTENEGRO", the upper arm with golden lion passant on a stylized rock, surmounted by linked, silver Montenegrinian double eagle crowned in gold, the upper loop, struck with maker'smark, complete with original, triangular ribbon. A most rare decoration of this high family order, probably founded in 1852 by Prince Danilo I. The first award ceremony took place on June 29th, 1871 when the first recipient, the Russian Tsar Aleksander II received it, perfect condition. Sash badge, 73x50 mm, in Silver and enamels, obverse centre medallion with red enameled fields and applied gold crowned monogram, inscription (For the Independence of Montenegro) in gold, reverse centre medallion with the date of independence 1852-3 and around,the same motto of the obverse also applied in gold, suspension loop and crown in silver gilt, original sash ribbon. Breast Star, 85 mm, with chiselled and pierced silver rays, superimposed with the enameled centre, like the badge it's obverse, with gold details to the centre medallion; the reverse, with maker's escutcheon of Mayer's Sohne, Vienna, and vertical pin (this, struck with two AA marks for Vienna), An exceptional group of this order of the best Austrian quality, from the end of 19th Century, extremely fine condition. Complete Group of collar of the Order. Grand Cordon, gilt Silver chain, the Collar, 49,5 cm., the Badge, 51,0 x 41,0 mm., composed of 5 roughly round, blue and red enameled shields with moresque, decorative pattern and six large, ornamented and pierced links, all jointed by short chainlets, centre-forward link with blue and red enamel above crossed, gilt spears, to which the order`s badge is suspended, blue enameled six-pointed star with gilt silver ornaments and deep-sea blue enameled border, centre medallion with orange enameled beaming sun, rising from blue enameled waving sea, within deep-sea blue enameled outer circlet, polished reverse with blue enameled centre medallion, bearing gilt, arab inscription.
A very rare collar, awarded to heads of state and princes only, the awards ceased in 1956 with Moroccan independence, excellent condition.
