ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR
Grand Cross Star of embroidered type, Period of Louis-Philippe, 1830-1848. Breast Star, 87 mm., the arms made of Silver sequins and silver threads, flanked by French flags also embroidered with silk treads at France’s colours, the borders and staffs made of gilt-silver (nicely patinated) threads and a tricolore-embroidered bow, tying the staffs below, polished silver centre medallion with bust of King Henri IV in gold, outer circlet also in gold, with motto “HONNEUR ET PATRIE” in polished letters on finely granulated ground and thin, polished borders, the reverse, backed with thick, ivory paper. A very rare star, in excellent condition. I RR! Provenance: the estate of P.-N. Rolland. He had his career in the Navy, where he distinguished himself in many battles and fightings, since the revolution and during the Napoleonic wars. Appointed Baron of the Empire, after the Restoration and the return of the King, he also received the Order of St. Louis. During the reign of Louis-Philippe, he was honoured with the highest class of the Legion of Honour.

Luxury Breast Star, 87 mm., with chiselled and pierced rays, centre medallion with Imperial eagle on a highly polished ground, outer circlet with order’s motto “HONNEUR ET PATRIE”, enriched in-and- out with diamond-cut silver circlets, reverse with maker’s escutcheon of Halley, Paris, broad pin and two hooks. With the original, parchment award document to Aristide-Isidore Jean Marie count de la Rue, Géneral de Division President of the Consulting Committee of the Army General Staff and of the Gendarmerie; given in Paris, on December 10th, 1857. A very rare and important group with a certain provenance and in the best quality, fully representing the prestige of a class, awarded to the highest ranking of clers and dignitaries, extremely fine condition. Grand Cross Breast Star in the so-called “Prince-Size”, 2nd Empire (1852-1870), instituted in 1802. Breast Star, 77 mm., Silver, with chiseled arms, flanked by bundles of polished beams, centre medallion with separately-mounted Imperial eagle facing left, on polished ground, finely pebbled outer circlet nearing the motto “HONNEUR ET PATRIE” in raised, polished lettering, concave, polished reverse, the counter medallion, bearing the silver escutcheon of Ouizille Lemoine, Paris. A beautifully-made star that can be dated around the years of the Crimean Campaign 1855–56 in the typical, most accurate manufacture of the mentioned Jewelers, the reduced size allows us to suppose the manufacture on behalf of a highly decorated dignitary, or a member of the Imperial court, excellent condition.
