The Supreme Order of Christ
Early Breast Star of the Order, from the beginning of 19th Century, 78 mm, smooth Silver rays of convex type and round tips, the centre with the Order’s cross in Gold, with fine chisel-work under the red, translucent enamel, within a golden outer circlet in the form of a thick laurel wreath, the reverse, fitted with pin. A beautiful, most rare star of the highest order of the Holy See, almost excellent condition and fine, blue-grey patina. I RR!

Order of the Golden Spur
A complete set of the Order: the badge, 105x56 mm, in gilt Silver and gold-yellow enamel the lower arm, fitted with a separately made spur, with rotating wheel, white enameled centre medallion with gilt, crowned monongram "MA" (representing the Holy Virgin), within faceted outer circlet, white enameled reverse medallion with golden inscription "PIVS X RESTITVIT" and "MCMV", the hinged trophy-of-arms, with chiseled details, the armour`s breast, the trophy`s reverse, with the maker`s escutcheon of Tanfani e Bertarelli, Rome (official purveyors to the Holy See) and the letter "A" (for "Argento", silver), fitted with two sliders to mount the badge to the collar, breast star, 81 mm, with silver, faceted and pierced rays, the centre with the Order`s cross in gilt silver and gold-yellow enamel and a spur with rotating wheel, mounted to the lower arm, polished reverse, also bearing the label of Tanfani e Bertarelli and the " indicating the details made of silver, broad pin and two sidehooks, the collar of the Order in gilt silver, typically divided into sections for wear on the different, ceremonial habits, the whole in the large, red morocco, fitted case of issue with maker`s signature of Tanfani e Bertarelli, Rome, printed in gold on the inner cushion, the lid, with gold embossed coat of arms of Pope Pius XI. A beautiful set of the second highest order of the Vatican state, scarcely awarded as a special reward for exceptional merits towards the Christianity and to the Holy See.

Knight Profess Cross, instituted after 1099, 44 mm., Gold, of slightly reduced size, red enameled “T” Cross, flanked by 4 similar crosses but smaller, thin, gold border with elegant chiselwork, polished reverse, fitted with pin. A very rare piece dating to the first half of the 19th Century, probably made for a catholic Prince or a high ranking priest, excellent condition. I RR!

Knight’s Breast Badge of reduced size, 25 mm, GOLD, blue enameled 8-pointed star, flanked by stylized, “rounded” flames, white enameled centre medallion bearing “PIVS IX” in golden lettering, within golden outer circlet bearing the black enameled Order’s motto “VIRTVTI ET MERITO”, white enameled, reverse centre medallion, bearing the date of institution “ANNO MDCCCXLVII” in gold, round suspension ring and original, silk ribbon. Gold “Bene Merenti” Medal for Military Merit
Breast Badge, 47x31 mm., GOLD, type awarded by Pope Pius X, round medal with bust of the Pope facing right, around, the inscription “PIUS . X . PONT . MAX.”, within green enameled laurel wreath, below, the medallist’s initials “P.M.”, rectangular loop on top, to which is hinged a beautifully embossed trophy of arms, fitted to the reverse with upper loop and round suspension ring, slightly concave reverse, the centre with the inscription “BENE / MERENTI” between a six- pointed star above and below, Jupiter’s bundle of lightnings, with original, silk ribbon and in the original, red morocco case of issue, the lid with gold embossed Pope Pius X’s coat of arms within a frame of floral ornaments and lines, ivory-colour velvet, fitted inner compartment. An extremely rare medal, awarded less than 10 times (1903–1914), exceptional quality, excellent condition and superb patina. I RR!

Silver Bene Merenti Medal for Military Merit
Round Medallion with the bust of Pope Benedict XV (1915-1922) facing right, 50x32 mm, surrounded by the inscription "BENEDICTUS XV PONT. MAX." and below, right, the maker`s signature "S.J." (Stefano Johnson, Milan), within a separately-made laurel wreath with green enameled leaves and orange-red enameled berries and the bow tying the branches, the reverse with round medallion, bearing the motto "BENE MERENTI", and the well-visible, 4 thin tubes with inserted pins, mounting the medallion to the wreath, rectangular upper loop and finely chiseled Trophy suspension, large, round ring and original ribbon. An extremely rare decoration, superb condition. The Medal for Military Merit was the highest honour besides the Orders, given to Officers of the armed corps in defence of the Holy See, first instituted by Pope Gregorius XVI after the Napoleonic wars, then renewed by each subsequent Pope, until Paul VI. I RR!
