Grand Cross Star. Embroidered Breast Star, 94 x 92 mm., gilt-silver wire and sequines, gilt, embossed sheet-silver fleurs de lys, the image of the saint, embroidered with polychrome threads, the reverse, fitted with off-white lambskin. A very rare and beautiful star of the best French quality, in extremely fine condition. I RR! This order, instituted 1693, was France’s highest military distinction during the Ancien Régime and, suppressed during Emperor Napoleon’s rule was revived in 1816, remaining active, along with the Legion of Honour, until 1848.

GOLD Miniature of the Commander’s badge, 14x9 mm., 9 g., with the Imperial eagle resting on blue enameled pointed crown with ball finials, the obverse, with tiny, oval portrait of Napoleon I facing left; with round suspension ring and original ribbon. A beautiful and extremely rare miniature (as worn also for everyday’s use on the uniform, as noticeable on contemporary portraits) from 1810 ca., of the finest quality and excellent condition. I RR!

Royal Italian Order of the Iron Crown
“Reduction” of the Knight’s Badge, 25x16 mm, Silver, with Napoleon’s Eagle, rising from blue enameled “pointed crown” with ball-finials (as from 1809), acanthus leaves and the Order’s motto in its well-known abbreviated form “D.M.L.D.D.” and “G.C.L.T.”, the obverse, with golden oval bearing the head of Napoleon facing left, upper crown of Royal type, with round, grooved suspension ring, sewn to a length of original, silk ribbon. A very rare decoration of the type with (although abbreviated) with the Italian motto, from 1810-12 ca., excellent condition. I RR!

Imperial Order of the Reunion
Knight’s Badge, 60x35 mm, GOLD with white enameled rays and golden arrows, convex centre medallion in gold with representation of the Imperial Throne, within pale blue enameled outer circlet bearing the inscription “TOUT POUR L’EMPIRE” in gold lettering and laurel branches. The reverse medallion also in gold with the Imperial monogram “N” within a laurel wreath, pale blue enameled outer circlet with golden inscription “A JAMAIS”, hinged crown suspension, with pale blue enameled base inscribed “NAPOLEON” (obverse) and “FONDATEUR.”, original, long ribbon with rosette, with the original award document, given in Paris, March 25th, 1812 to W. Barnaart, Mayor of Haarlem in the Netherlands, with the original signature “Duc de Cadore”, Jean- Baptiste de Nompère (1756-1834), count of Champagny and count of the Empire (April 24th 1808); Minister of the Internal Affairs (1804-1807); Minister of the Foreign Affairs (1807-1814), Grand Chancellor of the Order of the Reunion and Senator; the document is accompanied by two further papers: the first with the dated oath (“Formule de Serment”), the second, with particular, bureaucratic instructions to the knights. I R! A beautiful piece, definitely rare in this very fine condition and completeness. This Order was founded in 1811 as a special reward to those, both military or civil, for their signalled merits towards the empire. An approximate number of awards was 1 Grand Master (Napoleon I himself); 61 Grand Crosses, 90 Commanders and 527 Knights.

Imperial Order of the Reunion
Miniature of the Order, 44x18 mm., GOLD and enamels, a fine, rectangular golden buckle (an almost unreadable gold mark, to the lower, left corner) with a hinged, one-sided miniature of the Order, acting as the closure with safety- catch, with passing through, original ribbon together with the official letter signed by the Duke of Cadore (Jean-Baptiste de Nompère de Champagny) for the bestowal of the Grand Cross of the Order to a Count, dated in Paris, on April 3rd, 1813. In the letter, it also announced the sending of all the insignia, by order of the Emperor. An interesting documented group, related to the highest class of an important order of Napoleon’s era. Extremely fine! I R!

ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR
Grand Cross Star, Period of Louis-Philippe, 1830-1848. Breast Star, 78 mm., Silver with chiselled/faceted rays alternated with enameled French flags and standards in gold, polished silver centre medallion with bust of King Henri IV in gold, outer circlet also in gold, with motto “HONNEUR ET PATRIE” in polished letters on granulated ground and diamond-cut inner and outer borders, narrow, vertical pin of lens section, together, a fine, framed miniature portrait of Pierre-Nicolas Rolland. A very rare star, in excellent condition. I RR! Provenance: the heirs of P.-N. Rolland. He had his career in the Navy, where he distinguished himself in many battles and fightings, since the revolution and during the Napoleonic wars. Appointed Baron of the Empire, after the Restoration and the return of the King, he also received the Order of St. Louis. During the reign of Louis-Philippe, he was honoured with the highest class of the Legion of Honour.
