Breast Star, 76 mm., Silver, with chiseled and pierced rays with thin, chiseled border, golden centre with white enameled cross cross enriched with tiny “flames”, red enameled centre medallion with finely chiseled golden motto “IN TRAV FAST”, within broad, pebbled and white enameled, golden outer circlet, polished reverse, with vertical pin, the countermedallion, bearing the engraved maker’s signature of Quellhorst, München, in its original, round, dark red morocco case. A beautiful, rare star from the 1st half of 19th Century, excellent condition. I R!

Order of the Lion of Pfalz
Badge of the Order of reduced size, 25 x 20 mm., GOLD, night-blue enameled cross of Maltese type, flanked by chiseled, golden beams, centre medallion bearing crowned lion rampant on black enameled ground, white enameled outer circlet bearing the golden inscription “MERENTI”, reverse medallion with ornated, crowned monogram “CT” (of Carl Theodor, Prince Elector of Bavaria), within white enameled outer circlet bearing golden inscription “INSTITU. AN. 1768”, suspension loop chiseled as stylized acanthus leaves, grooved, round ribbon ring, original ribbon. An extremely rare badge of this early, Bavarian order, awarded in one class only, for exceptional merits, both civil and military, exceptional quality and condition. A piece that can be dated to the institution of the Order in 1768. I RR! Provenance: from the estate of General César Gabriel de Berluy, count Berthier (1765 – 1819), brother of the more famous Marshal of France, began his career as an officer during the Ancien Régime in 1782, later entered in the topographic bureau of the Army in 1796, chief of staff of Murat during the 1800 campaign, then promoted to Brigadier General and of Division in 1806, chief of staff of Joseph Napoleon in Naples, in 1807, commanded the expedition corps to Corfu and the Ionian islands, becoming the governor of that territory until 1808, transferred to command the 27th division in Turin, in 1811 received the command of the 23rd division in Corsica, after the fall of Napoleon, he was reintegrated in his ranks, being appointed as inspector general of the infantry. He died by an accident on August 17th, 1819 at the castle of Grosbois.

Sach Badge, 110 x 65 mm., GOLD, as a deep-sea blue enameled cross bearing the letters “P F P F” on gold, based by a bundle of golden lightnings and waving beams, the cross is also flanked by chiseled bundles of lightnings and beams, polished, oval centre medallion with beautifully-made scene of St. Michael in armour, his shield bearing the enameled inscription “QUIS UT DEUS”, with the defeated devil under his feet, upper loop as reversed, stylized acanthus leaves and large, Royal crown with round suspension ring, this, struck with Bavarian mark, the reverse, similar to the other side, but with round, convex centre medallion, bearing the dark-blue enameled inscription “VIRTUTI”, with original sash ribbon. Breast Star, 100 mm., Silver, chiseled and pierced rays, the centre as a golden, chiseled cross bordered by silver faceted, beaded pattern, the arms, bearing the chiseled letters “P F P F”, broad, dark blue enameled centre medallion bearing the golden, chiseled inscription “QUIS UT DEUS”, within diamond- cut, silver border, the reverse with broad, tapering pin, counter-medallion with the maker’s escutcheon of "Hemmerle, vorm. Elchinger, Munich", TOGETHER, the award document to Franz, Baron Nopcsa von Felsõ-Szülvas (1815–1904), “Obersthofmeister” to the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, dated August 8th, 1869. A beautiful, rare set of the finest Bavarian quality from the last quarter of 19th Century, excellent condition. I RR! note: Franz, Baron Nopcsa von Felsõ-Szülvas a member of the Transylvanian nobility, born in 1815 in Felsõfarkadin, Transylvania; died in 1904 in Szecsele- város, Transylvania), close to the Viennese court, was also father of the scientist and paleologist Franz jr. Baron Nopcsa von Felsõ-Szülvas.

Deep-sea blue enameled cross bearing the letters “P F P F” on gold, based by a bundle of golden lightnings and waving beams, the cross is also flanked by chiseled bundles of lightnings and beams, polished, convex centre medallion bearing the inscription “QUIS UT DEUS” in gold lettering on blue enamel, upper loop as reversed, stylized acanthus leaves and Royal crown with round suspension ring, the reverse, similar to the obverse side, with round, convex centre medallion, bearing the golden inscription “VIRTUTI” on blue enamel, in the original, early, night-blue morocco case of issue, with pale-blue velvet, fitted inner compartment, with original ribbon, the lid with embossed outlines and the golden title “St.M.O.”. A beautiful, extremely rare decoration, dating to the earlier years when this type was awarded, excellent condition. I RR!

Order of the Golden Flame or of the Phoenix, 1757
An important and historically relevant cross of the Order with rubies, from the property of the Prince of Hohenlohe, 79x35 mm., fire-gilt Bronze Maltese cross, made as a frame to enclose each arm, separately made, white enameled and enriched of three stylized flames each, painted in golden enamel, sky-blue enameled, obverse centre medallion, with the phoenix rising from fire, in the finest, enamel miniature, silver outer circlet, set with 19 rubies, the reverse centre with the pink and white enameled monogram of prince Philipp Ernst under a white and sky-blue enameled Prince’s crown without orb, resting on an eight- pointed star of polished, golden rays, ornamented upper loop of three stylized acanthus leaves, “roped” intermediate ring and grooved ribbon ring, made of gold, original superb ribbon. An exceedingly rare and beautiful decoration, dating to the institution of the order in 1757, as worn from the Prince himself; almost excellent condition, considering its age. I RR!

Order of the Golden Flame or of the Phoenix, 1757
Early Breast Star of the Order, instituted in 1757, 71 mm, with chiselled rays and applied centre in two-colour Gold and Silver base, the flames, most accurately chiselled, convex, blue enameled centre medallion with the order’s motto “IN SENIO” in finest gold enamel painting, concave, smooth reverse with the pin’s hinge (the pin, wanting) and pin-catch, in the original, morocco case, with fitted inner compartment, along with a most interesting paper, with hand- written notes about its provenance, stating that it belonged to the Count of Montalembert (a French Officer, belonged to the Royalist nobility, who fled to England and fought againt the Napoleonic forces, his son became a notable politician around the middle of 19th Century) and given to the Baron de Nervaux, who preserved this piece and most probably wrote these notes, with extremely interesting details about the award itself. A beautiful and very rare star of this ancient order, renewed and reorganized in 1763 by Prince Carl Albrecht of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, it was awarded to meritorious German nobles with at least the 4 quarters of nobility and to foreigners that could prove the same noble descent. ET NOBILLIORIB.” In separately applied, chiseled, golden lettering, the reverse with vertical pin and two side-hooks. Officer’s Badge of the Order, 75 x 45 mm., GOLD, with white enameled arms and pomed finials, bearing to the obverse the letters “H S C W” one on each arm (initials of “Henricus”, “Sigismundus”, “Carolus”, “Wenceslaus”), flanked by golden flames, dark blue enameled, oval centre medallion to the obverse, bearing the inscription “ILLUSTRI ET NOBI” (shortened form for “Illustribus et Nobilitati” = “to the illustrious and to the nobility”), golden smooth outer circlet, the reverse, with initials “P P D E” (whose meaning is until now unclear) and blue enameled centre medallion, bearing the image of an angel holding a torch, guiding a man, Royal, suspension crown fixed to the upper arm, round ribbon ring, and original, pale blue ribbon with rosette. A beautiful, most rare decoration of the finest quality, dating to the first years of 19th Century, excellent condition. I RR! note: this order, was instituted in 1768 by Philipp Ferdinand, Duke of Limburg-Styrum, to commemorate the 4 emperors born from the princely house of Limburg and to reward the highest nobility.

An extremely rare, beautiful star dating to the last quarter of the 19th Century, expressely made on behalf of a German Prince or a high-ranking personality, beautiful patina, preserved in untouched, excellent condition.
