A Collar of the order, of the “A’mid” class in gilt silver, composed of 10 round, white dark green bordered, white enameled links bearing the calligraphic inscription “Allah Algeria”, 8 links bearing the symbol of the Crescent and star amidst stylized rays and lotus flowers, all connected by small sections of chains made of round rings; the forward, larger link, fitted with a sliding closure-ring to which the badge is appended, as an elaborate, gilt openwork medallion inspired by the Moresque style with green and white enameled details; white enameled centre medallion also bearing the golden calligraphic inscription “Allah Algeria”; on top, a hinged, green enameled laurel wreath, tied by small medallion bearing the Crescent and Star; smooth, polished reverse. An extremely rare collar of the highest class after the one worn by the President himself only, the “A’mid” class or, better, dignity, is awarded by the President himself to heads of state and most prominent, national and foreign personalities, for exceptional, signalled merits to the Algerian state; excellent condition. A jewelled fleece badge of the order, of “archaic” stylized type, in Gold with finely chiseled details; the horns and the “strap”, profisely set with brilliants on both sides; round loop and moulded, tapering suspension ring (this, probably later, made for a re-use of this badge). An extremely rare, beautiful badge, that can be dated to the last quarter of 18th Century; excellent manufacture and condition. Dim.: 39,0 x 30,0 mm. A Neck Decoration in Gold from the Napoleonic period: chiseled fleece of early design suspended to the black-enameled “stone” with 7 gold-bordered, white drop-shaped dots, sided by convex, red enameled “flames”; upper “Feuer-Eisen” with bas-relief chiseled scene of Jason killing the dragon; blue enameled details and the Order’s motto “PRETIVM non VILE LABORVM”, reverse with similarly chiseled scene of Jason holding the Fleece and warriors rising from the ground; blue enameled details and the inscription “NON ALIVD”; green enameled upper globe (some chips); ribbon ring chiseled with acanthus leaves; with a length of correct ribbon. An exceptional decoration of the best, early, Austrian manufacture; no marks, as usual on Austrian decorations made prior to the introduction of the marking system; very fine condition The Order of the Golden Fleece, in its Austrian branch is one of the oldest and most illustrious chivalric orders in Europe, dating its origins (before the separation between Austria and Spain in the right to award it) back in the late 13th Century. The Royal Hungarian High Chivalric Order of St. Stephen, the Apostolic King
A complete grand Cross set: Sash Badge in Gold, the arms with translucent, green enamel on both sides; red enameled centre medallion with white patriarch’s cross, sided by the golden initials “M” and “T”, rising from a chiseled crown, resting on three, green enameled mounts, white enameled outer circlet bearing the black painted inscription “PUBLICUM MERITORUM PRAEMIUM”; white enameled reverse centre medallion, bearing the inscription “STO. ST:RI AP” (“Sancto Stephano Regi Apostolico” (to St. Stephen, the Apostolic King), bordered by a stylized, enamel-painted laurel wreath; upper loop of baroque style (struck with a “H” mark), and grooved, long suspension ring, fitted with a section of the order’s ribbon with button-holes, through which is inserted a separate, golden, uniface St. Stephen’s crown, whose reverse is fitted with golden retaining bars; with two Grand Cross sashes for wear on the priest’s robe, around the neck; Breast Star with chiseled and pierced silver rays, the centre in gold with red enameled medallion with separately-made, white enameled patriarch’s cross sided by chiseled, golden initials “M” and “T”, rising from three green enameled mounts; beaded golden borderand white enameled outer circlet enriched by a beautifully- made, green enameled oak wreath, enclosed by a larger, beaded border in gold and a further one in silver, with stylized, ornament; the reverse, fitted with vertical pin; in the original, red morocco case of issue, with ornamented outer lid and fitted, inner compartment. Together, from the same property, a cast bronze uniface medallion (work of C. Voigt, 1850), commemorating the Cardinal’s appointment as Nuntius in Vienna. An outstandingly rare set of the order, still with the 1st type badge, as awarded at the creation of the order, in the 18th Century with separate crown to be used as a “buckle” to secure the sash; the accompanying star, consistent to this set, can be dated to 1840-50; excellent condition. Dim.: the badge, 95,0 x 50,0 mm.; the star, dia. 80,0 mm. Provenance: the estate of Cardinal Michele Viale-Prelà (1798-1860), born in Bastia, Corsica from an aristocratic family, he became a priest at an early age; moved to Rome, he studied theology at the Sapienza University of Rome, earning the doctorate; secretary of a prominent cardinal in Rome, he then moved to Switzerland as an auditor to the Nuntiature (1828-36). He was then Nuntius in Vienna from 1845, keeping the diplomatic contacts between Austria and the Holy See, after the revolution of 1848-49, obtaining the agreement between the Emperor of Austria and the Pope. Cardinal in 1853, he remained as a Pronuntiusin Austria, until 1856, when he was created Archbishop of Bologna, where he held the see, until his death in 1860, being buried in the S. Petronio Cathedral of Bologna. He was a strong opponent of liberalism and constitutionalism, refusing to recognize the Italian authority, once Bologna passed to the Kingdom of Italy, in 1859. I RR!

Also known as the “Medal of the Viscount of Laguna” or “Medal Lécor”: Gilt Silver cross with roughly hexagonal arms, chiseled with a border of stylized laurel leaves; the obverse with the upper and lower arm enriched with the dates “1821” and “1822” embossed in gold, while the left and the right ones with an embossed, stylized rose; centre medallion in gold with green enameled leaves above the “Cerro de Montevideo” on blue enameled background, within green-yellow enameled outer circlet bearing the golden inscription “MONTEVIDEO” and a laurel wreath; above, golden suspension bar with engraved ornaments and the winged dragon, symbol of the House of Bragança; to the reverse, the arms with applied, gold embossed dates “1817”, “1818”, “1819” and “1820”; green enameled centre medallion in gold, bearing the inscription “PETRUS / I.B.I. / D.” under a stylized, horizontally arranged, golden laurel wreath; with its original award document, given on July 20th, 1823, to Captain José Bonifacio de Toledo, officer of the Sao Paulo Milicia, for his merits displayed in the years 1818, 1819, 1820, 1821 and 1822, with autographed signature of the Viscount of Laguna.
