ORDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR
Grand Cross Breast Star in the so-called “Prince-Size”, 2nd Empire (1852-1870), instituted in 1802. Breast Star, 77 mm., Silver, with chiseled arms, flanked by bundles of polished beams, centre medallion with separately-mounted Imperial eagle facing left, on polished ground, finely pebbled outer circlet nearing the motto “HONNEUR ET PATRIE” in raised, polished lettering, concave, polished reverse, the counter medallion, bearing the silver escutcheon of Ouizille Lemoine, Paris. A beautifully-made star that can be dated around the years of the Crimean Campaign 1855–56 in the typical, most accurate manufacture of the mentioned Jewelers, the reduced size allows us to suppose the manufacture on behalf of a highly decorated dignitary, or a member of the Imperial court, excellent condition.
