MILITARY ORDER OF SAINT LOUIS, INSTITUTED IN 1693
Grand Cross Star. Embroidered Breast Star, 94 x 92 mm., gilt-silver wire and sequines, gilt, embossed sheet-silver fleurs de lys, the image of the saint, embroidered with polychrome threads, the reverse, fitted with off-white lambskin. A very rare and beautiful star of the best French quality, in extremely fine condition. I RR!
This order, instituted 1693, was France’s highest military distinction during the Ancien Régime and, suppressed during Emperor Napoleon’s rule was revived in 1816, remaining active, along with the Legion of Honour, until 1848.
