The Embroidered Breast Star of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Andrew The first called, belonged to dom João VI Kingof Portugal
The rays, made of embossed sheet Silver, bordered with twisted silver wire, alternated by ones made of silver sequines; the tips, with tiny silver-thread loops to mount the star to the habit; orange, gros-grain silk centre medallion, embroidered with the black, Imperial Russian double eagle, its breast with gold bullion St. Andrew’s cross and similarly embroidered crowns and claws; sky-blue gros-grain silk outer circlet, with gold-bullion thread embroidered Order’s motto in Cyrillic script and a gold and green silk embroidered laurel wreath; the centre’s border with an elaborate pattern of twisted/flattened silver wire; the reverse, backed with strong paper, bearing handwritten notes in sepia-ink and red pencil, about the property and position of the piece in the Royal inventory. A beautiful, important breast star from the time of the Napoleonic wars, excellent condition. Dia.: 85,0 mm. I RR!
