A Jewelled Commander’s Breast Star of the Military Division: with chiseled silver rays, completely set with Diamonds of different sizes; centre medallion, also set with diamonds, with superimposed, three royal crowns in gold and red enamel; gold bordered, red enameled outer circlet, with applied motto of the Order in chiseled gold; all surrounded by a golden laurel wreath set with emeralds to imitate the foliage and rubies representing (right below the tying knot, set with deep-blue stones, these, above the golden, deep-blue enameled scroll with the motto “ICH DIEN”); the reverse with a plate and centre convex disc made of gold, fitted with a vertical pin, also made of gold.
A lavishly-made piece, although unsigned, surely a work of a British jeweller, dating to the time of the Crimean War, extremely fine condition and exceedingly rare. Dim.: 74,0x74,0 mm. I RR!
