The Order of Dannebrog
An early Grand Cross Collar of the Order in firegilt Bronze, composed of 24 white/red lacquered crosses, 12 crowned "W" and 12 crowned "C" monograms, one of these, with hook to which is suspend the Order`s badge. A most important a highly rare collar from the mid 18th Century and, considering its age, in extremely fine condition. The Order of Dannebrog has a legendary history, dating back to 1219, when King Waldemar II created a chivalric order. King Christian V in 1671, instituted this Order as a reviving of the ancient one, and through its history, it still is Denmark`s highest distinction, after the Order of the Elephant.
