The Restauration of Bahia, 1823 Honour Medal
Oval, as a Gilt Silver (dark toned due to age) star of chiseled beams, the obverse with gold centre medallion embossed with a sword crossed upon a laurel branch with green enameled leaves; on top, the Imperial monogram of Brazil “P.I” under a laurel crown; sky-blue enameled outer circlet bearing the chiseled inscription “RESTAURACAO OF BAHIA 1823” in gold lettering; strong loop to which is hinged a crown of the Brazilian Imperial type in gold with enameled details; round suspension ring; the reverse, bearing an oval, embossed with the portrait of Emperor Pedro I in uniform.
An exceptionally rare award from the Brazilian war of independence from Portugal, interesting for its unique reverse face; excellent quality and condition, beautiful patina.
